Supported Hospitals
As of June 2026, we support five partner hospitals with a primary focus on Northern Tanzania. We provide life-saving antivenom free of charge, promote the training and continuing education of healthcare professionals in snakebite management, and offer clinical support and consultation for complex cases. Through this close collaboration, we strengthen local treatment capacities and improve access to evidence-based snakebite care across the region.
Meserani Snake Park Clinic
The Meserani Snake Park Clinic is located approximately 40 kilometers west of Arusha and is one of the leading snakebite treatment centers in East Africa. The clinic treats several thousand patients each year and has developed particular expertise in the evidence-based management of snakebite envenoming. In addition to providing direct patient care, it serves as a training and referral center for healthcare professionals from across Tanzania. Through the close collaboration with Pflaster für Tansania e.V., the clinic's medical infrastructure, antivenom availability, and critical care capabilities have been significantly strengthened over recent years. Today, the Snakebite Treatment Center operates two high-dependency beds and six monitored treatment beds, providing care for patients from a large catchment area across Northern Tanzania.
FOUNDATION OF AFRICAN MEDICINE
(FAME)
The FAME Hospital in Karatu is a non-profit hospital in Northern Tanzania that provides healthcare services to a large rural population as well as the surrounding Maasai communities. As an important partner of Pflaster für Tansania e.V., the hospital plays a key role in the management of snakebite envenoming in the region. In addition to supplying antivenom, we support healthcare professionals through regular training programs and clinical consultation to ensure high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
MOROGORO REGIONAL REFERAL HOSPITAL
The Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital is the largest referral hospital in the Morogoro region and serves a catchment area of several million people across Central and Eastern Tanzania. As a partner hospital of Pflaster für Tansania e.V., it receives support for the management of snakebite envenoming through the provision of antivenom, training programs for healthcare professionals, and clinical consultation for complex cases. The goal of this collaboration is to sustainably improve access to timely and evidence-based snakebite care throughout the region.
KILIMANJARO CHRISTIAN MEDICAL CENTER (KCMC)
The Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi is one of Tanzania’s most renowned referral and teaching hospitals. As a tertiary care center, KCMC provides highly specialized medical services to patients from across Northern Tanzania. Through its collaboration with Pflaster für Tansania e.V., the hospital’s capacity to manage snakebite envenoming is strengthened through the provision of antivenom, professional exchange, and ongoing training and education programs for healthcare workers. This partnership further enhances the treatment of severe snakebite cases in one of the most densely populated regions of Tanzania.
KMT Hospital
The KMT Hospital in Shirati is located on the eastern shore of Lake Victoria near the Kenyan border and serves a predominantly rural population in the Mara region. Due to the high incidence of snakebite envenoming in the surrounding communities, the hospital is an important partner within our network to improve snakebite care in Tanzania. Pflaster für Tansania e.V. supports the hospital through the provision of antivenom, training and capacity building for healthcare professionals, and clinical consultation for the management of complex cases.
